Poiret became famed for creating a looser silhouette based on Art Deco forms. The strict forms and pale colours of the 19th Century gave way to a new shape of untied dresses and chemisiers; draped fabrics; and bold colours influenced by the Ballet Russes and the exotic Orient.

Creator of Bohemian Chic (at the height of his career), Poiret truly deserved the title of King Of Modern Fashion. Indeed, it can be argued that, with his groundbreaking vision, Poiret was the first truly modern designer.
